Making new best friends, from our family to yours.
Welcome to Prairie Wheatens
Welcome to Prairie Wheatens, the home of the Whoodle! We specialize in providing quality Whoodles: a cross between a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Poodle. Prairie Wheatens is a small-scale breeder committed to raising healthy puppies presenting exceptional temperament and personality. All of our puppies are well-socialized and live in an interactive family environment. We believe early training makes a big difference in an adult pup, so every puppy has an introduction to basic training, including potty training. Our puppies will be cuddled, played with, and loved very much until they meet their new families. One of our goals is to match healthy canines to the best 'fur-ever home possible.

The Whoodle
ALTERNATIVE NAMES: Whoodles, Wheatendoodle, Wheatenpoo, Sweatendoodle, Sweatenpoo.
SIZE: Medium-sized dog. 25 - 45 lbs / 16"- 20" in height
LIFE SPAN: Approx. 12-15 years
COAT: Dependent on which parent the dog favors, the Whoodles coat will vary between fluffy or curly.
COLORS: Whoodles come in many potential coat colors, dependent on the parents' coloring. Wheatens have a fading gene (as well as some poodles) which means that your Whoodle puppy will almost always change color as they grow, final color resulting around age 2.
Living with a Whoodle
ALLERGIES: Hypoallergenic; depending on the severity of the allergy, these Whoodles are ideal for most as both wheaten terriers and poodles are hypoallergenic.
SHEDDING: Both Wheatens and Poodles are non-shedding making, this mix is almost 100% non-shedding.
SMALL HOME \ APARTMENT LIVING: These dogs are great for apartments, providing regular walks.
TEMPERAMENT: Playful and friends with anyone. They do not do well with being left alone for extended periods.
KID-FRIENDLY: Superb with children of all ages. Wheatens are known for their affection and love for anyone, including babies and young children, while Poodles are known for being loyal, intelligent, and reliable. These traits make this doodle cross of personalities one of the best family dogs.
PET-FRIENDLY: Does well with other dogs & cats.
ACTIVITY: Whoodles do require regular, moderate exercise and will keep up well with an active lifestyle. However, they do not need a large yard and can be content with walks or playing fetch.
BARKING: Whoodles can be known to bark if they are surprised or excited.
TRAINING: Great for first-time owners as the Whoodle is easy to train, as this crossbreed is intelligent and eager to please. They do well with positive reinforcement training.
Maintenance of a Whoodle
GROOMING: Whoodles require frequent brushing, bathing occasionally, and grooming around 2-3 months (Depending on the hairstyle). Regular trimming and cleaning of the ears will prevent ear infections.
HEALTH CONCERNS: In general, the Whoodle is a healthy breed. Due to the gene pool being more vast with crossbred dogs, they are less likely than purebred dogs to develop congenital conditions. Some conditions that could affect the Whoodle are Addison’s Disease, Hip Dysplasia, Retinol Atrophy & ear infections.
